In this case, Jesus is in the temple surrounded by a throng of worshipers. Of course, that does not tell us what the living water is! For that, we must go to another passage of Scripture. ![]() Notice that He does not say that He is the living water, but that He would give living water to her, and when she received it, she would never thirst again. Jesus ignored the question and went right to the point, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water” (John 4:10). Of course, she had no idea who Jesus was and asked Him how He could ask her for water since He was a Jew. ![]() The Samaritan woman was quite shocked because Jesus was a Jew, and Jews simply hated the Samaritans. A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus asked her for a drink. Jesus was tired and sat at a well while His disciples went into town to buy food. The first instance is found in John chapter 4. We have many gifts, but one Spirit unites us, the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit whom Jesus has given to the Church to unify us, to unite us, to call us to serve a single purpose, a common mission, which is “to make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.Jesus uses the phrase “living water” in two instances in the Bible. Some of us are wealthy, others of us are just starting out, some are college educated, others are still in school, some are from this country, others have immigrated from elsewhere, some are well-known in the community, others not so much. We are male and female, we are young and old, we are Republican and Democrat, we are liberal and conservative, we are long-time church members and brand new Christians. Here at Wooster United Methodist Church we are a large and diverse congregation composed of persons of diverse backgrounds and disparate opinions. One Giver, one Lord, one Spirit, one Wordįor the Giver, for the gifts, praise, praise, praise! In our difference is blessing, from diversity we praise Many gifts, one Spirit, one love known in many ways. Each one of us, therefore, is a special child of God, formed and fashioned by One who loves us just as we are and who calls us to reveal the Divine Image implanted within us to those others, neighbors and strangers, all of whom we are called to love. A God of “many colors … many signs,” to use the words of the hymn, chooses to make human beings different and unique. Thus the song highlights our many gifts as United Methodist Christians but also the one Spirit who draws all those gifts together and makes them usable to God for the purpose of fulfilling God’s vision, God’s desire and dream for the people called United Methodist. This Assembly was the first following the merger of the Methodist and the Evangelical United Brethren churches. ![]() Written by Al Carmines on a commission from the Women’s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, this song was first sung in October of 1973 at the Assembly of United Methodist Women in Cincinnati, Ohio. The hymn “Many Gifts, One Spirit” has been occupying my attention these past few weeks and days. This has the effect of forming an elastic skin on the interior of the glass blob that matches the exterior skin caused by the removal of heat from the furnace. The process of free-blowing involves the blowing of short puffs of air into a molten portion of glass called a "gather" which has been spooled at one end of the blowpipe. This method held a pre-eminent position in glassforming ever since its introduction in the middle of the 1st century BC until the late 19th century, and is still widely used as a glassforming technique, especially for artistic purposes. Glassworking in a hot shop in New York City The two major methods of glassblowing are free-blowing and mold-blowing. That allows production of blown glass with uniform thickness instead of causing blow-through of the thinned layers.Ī full range of glassblowing techniques was developed within decades of its invention. Lower concentration of natron would have allowed the glass to be stiffer for blowing.ĭuring blowing, thinner layers of glass cool faster than thicker ones and become more viscous than the thicker layers. With reference to their studies of the ancient glass assemblages from Sepphoris of Israel, Fischer and McCray postulated that the concentration of natron, which acts as flux in glass, is slightly lower in blown vessels than those manufactured by casting. To increase the stiffness of the molten glass, which in turn makes the process of blowing easier, there was a subtle change in the composition of glass. That is based on the liquid structure of glass where the atoms are held together by strong chemical bonds in a disordered and random network, therefore molten glass is viscous enough to be blown and gradually hardens as it loses heat. The glass is glowing yellow.Īs a novel glass forming technique created in the middle of the 1st century BC, glassblowing exploited a working property of glass that was previously unknown to glassworkers inflation, which is the expansion of a molten blob of glass by introducing a small amount of air to it. The blowpipe is being held in the glassblower's left hand. Have you been to Vidrio Soplado Mexicano? What did you think? ![]() This wouldn’t be such a problem, but Blake is our avatar. This isn’t necessary, as an on-screen prompt (which half the time they provide anyway) would work just fine. Blake also has a tendency to announce out loud what he has to do next. On a half dozen occasions, a dramatic and impactful scene was cut short by Blake deciding he must insert his inane commentary into the situation. If you can manage it, he should not talk at all. A rule of thumb for all horror developers: your player character should not self-narrate. With no words at all, most people recognized them as normal guys turned badass by the horrific situations they found themselves in.īlake is, to be blunt, annoying. His communication was through written notes commentating on the scenes he found. He would occasionally scream, breathe and make other acceptable noises, but he did not talk. In the original Outlast and its DLC Whistleblower, the player character did not speak. Unfortunately, the one exception to this is a very big exception, and that is the player character Blake. Pretty much every character from Outlast 2 is memorable and manages to be both scary, entertaining, and in some cases even humorous. And of course there is Laird, a leper who rides on a mute man named Nick and believes you to be the messiah. Unfortunately, you don’t see Val as much as the others. You also run into the heretic leader Val, a former cultist of indeterminate gender who also has a memorable voice and design. I loved every interaction with her as much as it scared me out of my boots. She reminded me a bit of Pyramid Head, lumbering around with a fist full of rosary beads and a modified pickaxe, all the while reciting verses in a gravelly voice. Marta, like Walker, will periodically show up when it’s the least convenient, and you must do whatever it takes to avoid her. The best of them is this games take on Outlast’s Chris Walker, a cultist named Marta. The characters are part of what made the original Outlast so great, and the characters in Outlast 2 are as good if not better in most cases. The issue is, even when you figure this out, the flashbacks carry on assuming you have not, and by the time it shows you what truly happened, it doesn’t feel much like a whammy. You can guess pretty early that Jessica did not actually commit suicide, and you can infer from even the most subtle clues that she was being abused (likely sexually) by staff at the school. The sequences themselves are terrifying and jarring, but the story within is far less interesting from the main one. The transition between the real world and the flashbacks are very well done, and some happen so seamlessly that it’s disorienting, but in a good way. While you travel, Blake will frequently have invasive visions of his past in a Catholic school, where he is haunted by the memories of his friend Jessica who supposedly hung herself. Outlast 2 doesn’t deal in Nazi pseudo-science, so it has more liberty to let its environment and character actions tell the story. The original was fairly good at storytelling, but the nature of its story meant it had to do a lot more direct explaining. The progression of the story in Outlast 2 is very well done, and in the main story it never feels like the story is spoon fed to you. Unfortunately, the powers that be crash your helicopter and the two of you separated, leaving you and your surprisingly stable camera to crawl through the cult grounds alone. You are cameraman Blake Langermann, flying over a deserted canyon with your wife Lynn to investigate the apparent murder of a pregnant teenager. Outlast 2 is messed up, and thus many of the descriptions herein may also be messed up. Right down to the horrific imagery made of repressed memories and subconscious anger. In story, Outlast 2 has no relation to its predecessor, but fans of the original will find that it definitely feels like an Outlast game. All the while, you record the horrors you witness and uncover the secrets of the cult, as well as face memories of your past. Instead of traveling back to Mount Massive Asylum, players are dropped in the middle of a deranged cult village and must traverse churches, mountains, forests, swamps, and mines to find their wife and escape. ![]() It was so popular that a sequel was only sensible, and now we have Outlast 2. It made waves among the horror themed Let’s Players of the world, but was also critically acclaimed for its design and characters. The pace of a single step ( military pace) is about 2.5 feet. In some places and situations it was reckoned as the distance from the place where either foot is taken up, in walking, to that where the same foot is set down again (a great pace), usually 5 feet or a little less. It also was, from late 14c., a lineal measurement of vague and variable extent, representing the space naturally traversed by the adult human foot in walking. Late 13c., "a step in walking," also "rate of motion the space traveled by the foot in one completed movement in walking," from Old French pas "a step, pace, trace," and directly from Latin passus, passum "a step, pace, stride," noun use of past participle of pandere "to stretch (the leg), spread out," probably from PIE *pat-no-, nasalized variant form of root *pete- "to spread." False prophet "one who prophecies without divine commission or by evil spirits," is attested from late 13c. To bear false witness is attested from mid-13c.
